anyway, the moment they're out of earshot ritsu dumps all his weight on shylock, groaning )

I feel like I am. ( it hurts. it hurts sooo much, he's never been beaten up before and it shows. he's been mentally listing how it hurts and where and he's pretty sure he has some broken ribs. he's going to DIE, SHYLOCK!!! ) I wanna see Emicchi... She'd fix me right up... But she's gonna scold me too...

...I just didn't think ( mumbled into his back ) that it was fair to crack down on the Kappa. They don't know anythin', and it's not like they'd gain anything from that Daitengu guy bein' dead. No one in the Alliance would.

( people on the outside, on the other hand. )

[ ah, he's that worn out. shylock stops in his tracks and, just like what he offered to a certain pink-haired vampire the other month, scoops ritsu up in his arms and goes on his merry way.

he is thoughtful as he mulls over ritsu's words just now. ]

I know. [ his voice is quiet and soothing. ] My theory is that one of the other clans did this. The Sutoku have control over utilities, and if another clan were to take over that department...

Of course, I'm still not sure about where mine would stand. Frankly, I'm surprised that you contacted me of all people. You shouldn't trust a fox at all, you know?

( ritsu's alarmed for a moment--the only person who picks him up like this is his older brother, and it's hard to come down from the mix of embarrassment and revulsion that pops up when he thinks about it, but shylock is speaking and ritsu will listen. )

Nia and Chokkun're Tamamo too, and they're good people. 'specially Chokkun... He reminds me of a junior back home. ( chongyun so does not deserve to suffer in tamamo, but it's been fun seeing him in his element, too. gradually, ritsu makes himself relax, closing his eyes. ) Though no offense to Tamamo, but I think you guys'd do something more underhanded than with force. That leaves Shuten and the Enma, right?

And well, you're not wrong. We simply lack the manpower, and even if we have some capable fighters in our ranks, they would simply be outnumbered by the ones in Shuten. We'll have no choice but to count on brains instead of our brawn.

[ or lack thereof. ]

Now, about Shuten. Just as you say, they'd usually go forth with force, and I don't think they'd resort to hiding in the sewers until they strike when they can charge the stage at anytime. [ at least that's what he thinks. ] And Enma prioritizes order above all else, so unless there are cases of corruption among them that we are not privy to, they can't possibly have arranged it.

[ maybe. look, he only met like two enma people so far and even then he's been evading them for the most part. ]

...Depends on their definition of order. People with good intentions do the wrong thing, too.

( sometimes trying to make a place that's fair to everyone involves more bloodshed than it's worth. sometimes good people convince themselves they're in the right, doing the right thing, so even when their actions don't quite match up... )

Ahh, or maybe I'm just sore over 'em beating the crud out of me. ( ritsu sighs, mind still at work despite it. tamamo's sneakiness and shuten's brawn working together, or maybe one of the other youkai factions in the alliance who hadn't liked how the daitengu was running things...? or maybe there's something about the daitengu that isn't right...

ritsu hums. they really don't have enough information... he guess he'll see what he can pick up here and there, once he's rested a bit-- ) Wake me when we're wherever... I didn't sleep a wink last night.

( it was a little hard to, and he's not really going to sleep now, either, but it's fine. it's fine. )

[ if shylock had a nickle every time he had to carry a teenage vampire boy in his arms after they get into some sussy business, he'd have two -- which isn't much, but it is odd that it has already happened to him twice.

but regardless, he doesn't mind at all. gotta flex those bartender muscles while on break somehow. ]

Emicchi? [ --ah. what a cute name he'd given her. shylock laughs. ] So that's where she's been working now. In that case, I may as well drop by once everything has settled. I haven't ventured too far into the Sutoku drinking scene yet.

[ because, you know, that's all he wants to visit the sutoku bars though. but emily had worked in the same establishment as he did recently, so the least he should do is pay her a visit sometime.

but shhh. shh. shylock pauses in his steps a moment to readjust his hold on ritsu -- don't be shy, feel free to lean into this wizard's bosom if you have to. but hold on, a knight? ]

And I thought you are an idol. Since when do knights come into play?

...The idol unit I belong to s'called "Knights". We kinda take it seriously every now and again.

Swearing things as an idol or a vampire's not as serious, but a knight? Mmm, that sounds better.

A knightly idol unit... How quaint. Although, there is something romantic about a vampire swearing himself to someone, wouldn't you agree?

I know a knight myself. Outgoing, friendly, courageous -- as all knights do. You could learn a thing or two from him.

If a vampire swears himself to you, though, that's just a load of trouble. We're bad at sharing, we're super protective of what we think is ours... We want to be spoiled and loved and for those we treasure to only look at us, just us, forever and ever... ( ... ) It isn't fair.

( he knows that. and he also knows it's also always just been the whining of a petulant child, afraid of being left behind or alone. it's different now, sure, insomuch as "now" affects this now, but... )

I guess it can seem pretty romantic, though. Not that I'll find anyone here worth swearin' myself to like that. Everyone I love's back... ( at home? still alive? he hesitates on what to call it, then settles on: ) They're not here.

But wouldn't it be special if you do find someone who can accept you despite all those troubles you mentioned? It does not have to be from this world.

I hear that vampires tend to have long lives as well. Moreover, you're still young. Just because the ones you cherish aren't here does not mean that you're not allowed to seek other people to love. [ they won't have to know. and they'll understand... maybe. ]

A lot more people here've been acceptin' the vampire thing than they ever did at home... Guess that's what being in Hell does to you. ( like, look at the regular citizens here... a vampire(alignedperson) isn't anything special. it's kind of nice. ) Do you have any where you're from?

[ what can he say, he's a rather wordly guy. it's the west in him to seek out companionship, hyperaware as he is that he will one day die alone. ]

We don't. Only humans and wizards and a smattering of other magical creatures here and there. [ he then looks to the distance. ] We don't peacefully coexist, however, but I suppose that's the norm in other worlds.
