Who ⬤ sakamoto ryouma (rider) + other sutoku alliance lost souls
What ⬤ post-event emergency meeting
When ⬤ several hours after the assassination
Where ⬤ konoha — vip area
Content Warnings ⬤ none right now but will update as needed!

[ once the dust (steam?) has settled, an sms goes out to fellow sutoku alliance contacts. some might recognise the username rider more than others and know the man it's attached to but in any case, everyone who shows up will know him soon enough anyway. ]

Hello!

There's a lot of confusion right now, but what's important is to stay calm and not do anything hasty. I'll be organising a meeting tonight at Konoha. Let's exchange what we know and discuss next steps. You're going to have to pay for your own refreshments though, sorry! Space is on me though! (*_ _)人

Don't be discouraged! We're only getting started. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

If you think there are any other Sutoku who haven't gotten this, pass the message along, ok?

— Rider

[ someone has to keep the spirit of the daitengu alive, okay?? the message also comes attached with a calendar invite. ]

[ later, anyone arriving for the meeting will be directed to the club's VIP area and encouraged to place food and drink orders as desired. this has definitely set ryouma back, but under the present circumstances, there's no better time than this to spare no expense, right? ]

ooc; this is a mingle in addition to a general sort of information sharing prompt so feel free to throw your own top levels up and thread amongst yourselves! i give everyone free rein to threadjack as you see fit — just check with other individual players if you have any questions!
☆ i left the exact time of the meeting sort of open, but assume it's sometime within the next half-day or so after the assassination to account for people needing to finish up investigations, potentially heal up a little after fighting, time for him to book the club, etc. feel free to have characters wander in late too!
☆ i also provided the option for characters to phone in (since it was mentioned to me on the ooc post), so if they can't make it in person they can still be in the loop!
☆ any non-Sutoku tag-a-longs are assumed to be showing up late so as not to be sitting in on private discussions earlier in the night.

The apex businessman. [Businesstengu?] Considering our quarter's specialty in corporate franchises, you may well be right.

So, do you think the Daitengu is a hero?

[As Ryouma says- it was only annoying because they were at the bottom of the ladder. Matoba, again, can't fault the clan for operating based on the longterm intent. Whatever sacrifices he made of his clan, he made because he had done the cost-efficiency to ensure that it was the correct move.]

[It was good business not to waste resources, and expecting that shrewdness of one's organization was a part of the contract they had all agreed to, as well.]

Yes, among other things. Different spells for different categories of ayakashi. Not that I'm planning anything untoward, of course. [Of course. He smiles "pleasantly".] A spirit who is formed through the ideas of a human's existence, and not through the life experiences of an actual human... does that mean you do not carry memories of life? What an empty existence that would be... But, perhaps, less painful.

[What did Ryouma do to deserve all this poking and prodding?? Nothing! But the moment he confirmed himself to be a spirit, Matoba's demeanor had certainly shifted, somewhat.]

[Matoba chuckles to himself, particularly delighted by Ryouma's realization.] Well. We will just have to see about that, won't we.

[IF the Daitengu wasn't truly dead. If the clan survived out the week. Perhaps the next Daitengu would be hero material, too- who knows?]

[All of them were of the type to wish they could have those few minutes to toy with their all-powerful leader, to ascertain for themselves just what made them tick- but being who they all were, the Daitengu was surely the same ilk, and had known better than to be open enough to give them the opportunity. Too bad, that. Matoba had tried, anyway.]

I see. This sort of power is not completely unfamiliar to me, although I have never encountered it manifesting in ... quite this way. I suppose it isn't easy to keep your identity quiet when you are so well known, [Matoba muses, eye catching on Ryouma's crest once more.] ......It's already a foregone conclusion in the metropolitan areas, but even in the countryside where I reside, spirits and even the gods have wasted away in power so drastically due to humanity's waning faith in their existence.

To encounter someone like you, who remains fed perhaps on the scraps of idolization and remembrance that our [He smirks,] standard educations provide is....[His head drops with a soft laugh.] Hm. Like I said. You are a proof of concept that anything can become empowered through "faith". Even mortals.

...Is it uncouth of me to ask what your unique talent is, Sakamoto-san?

[He's no fan of ghosts, but he's clearly retained his sense of self, so... human enough to Matoba.]

Haha, well, spirits and the like are my specialty, after all.......

[What he's implying is that he has all the time in the world for this but dear god no one should have to explain all of Fate, I don't wish this on anyone. He's just like this. Also I just now this moment got the 'ship has sailed' joke in the last tag.]

[Matoba leans back and raises his good arm to his chin. "Rider", huh? Matoba was familiar with classes of ayakashi that broke them down into tribes, similar to those in Jigoku- the oni and other imps and ogres; the beasts, divine and otherwise, which included foxes, inugami and the like; sea creatures. But turning it over in his mind, he can't guess what a "Rider" would be based on that alone.]

I see. .... I take it that you're not speaking of mounted combat, when you say that. But what you are saying is that without your master, your power is somewhat mitigated... Is that right?

It is certainly interesting to know that shiki contracts remain intact even past the boundaries of Hell, but I think I would have expected that. Now, if the Master is the one who has "died"... [Were Natori's shiki still bound to him? Hmm.]

['Two halves of the same thing'?] You are contracted with a snake youkai....? Now that is certainly interesting. [And certainly... different. Was this the result of his becoming a spirit, or a contract that had been unknown to the history of the Sightless?]

[Matoba finds himself wondering if the clans further north had known anything of this, in their recorded histories. And if they did, why are they holding out...]

[--But what that has to do with being a mounted samurai (he presumes)? Ah, well--]

A snake is a rather unorthodox mount, but I suppose it must have its advantages. [...For a spirit. Count him out on that one.]

[Marriages.......... huh.]

[Matoba absorbs this information, face impassive. Boy. That sure was a lot of history missing from the clan archives that he was aware of.]

[But the way he puts it- that he was just followed- isn't too uncommon a tale with shiki back in those days, is it? Ayakashi were strange creatures; even though they would lie and cheat and fool humans without a second thought, they also had odd ways of repaying favors- sometimes with disaster, sometimes with haunting humans, refusing to ever leave their sides. He supposes that, with Sakamoto himself now a spirit, it wasn't really haunting anymore, was it?]

I see, [He says, which is the politest way he could answer. Should he be rude to one of the nation's forefathers?? Hmmm.] That is quite useful. It's been a long time since a serpent has been active in our area.... I imagine they have all retreated to the ayakashi realm, or been slain. [Cheery.......]

...Then, your 'special skill' is your shiki? [He's going to keep calling her a shiki, sorry not sorry.]
