There's a lot of confusion right now, but what's important is to stay calm and not do anything hasty. I'll be organising a meeting tonight at Konoha. Let's exchange what we know and discuss next steps. You're going to have to pay for your own refreshments though, sorry! Space is on me though! (*_ _)人

☆ i left the exact time of the meeting sort of open, but assume it's sometime within the next half-day or so after the assassination to account for people needing to finish up investigations, potentially heal up a little after fighting, time for him to book the club, etc. feel free to have characters wander in late too!
☆ i also provided the option for characters to phone in (since it was mentioned to me on the ooc post), so if they can't make it in person they can still be in the loop!
☆ any non-Sutoku tag-a-longs are assumed to be showing up late so as not to be sitting in on private discussions earlier in the night.

It would be handy if we had some way to verify truth with the right spells and techniques or somesuch, but I'm guessing no one's been conveniently awarded that back before all this went down.

[sighs! he doesn't always feel the loss of his powers in the day-to-day bustle of Jigokucho, but certain ones would have been immensely useful in this mess.]

That said, I'll go around and see who I can speak to after this meeting among the Kappa, and we can at least verify if the story changes or stays consistent.

How strong did this discontent seem, by the way? Did it seem like a mild grudge? Or is it the sort where they seem hostile enough to each other, that the Mountain tribe might find messing up the whole faction worth it in order to put the River tribe in a precarious position?

I was conveniently rewarded powers just before this went down. Unfortunately, disembodied tentacles weren't able to be a help out.

I'm not aware how deep such a grudge goes. Considering it was so easy for a new member of Alliance to discover, it might be ubiquitous.

Well, maybe in other circumstances, yes? Less martial ones, with fewer surprise firearms.

[he has been trying not to stare too obviously at those tentacles when Ydris has had them out in this meeting. they're not the strangest thing he's ever seen, but even after a month in a city of youkai, he's not fully used to such things on someone he can have a coherent conversation with, rather than something ravening that wants to eat his face in the unfun way.]

And...hmm. In that case, it might be worth pursuing that angle? Both seeing what non-Kappa Sutoku say about it, and what the Kappa themselves say? Best to investigate whatever potential motives come up, after all.

Trouble with that is the Kappa didn't seem keen to talk to new recruits before all this. Are they going to open their mouths now that they're prime suspects?

[Ydris considers that a moment. Maybe it's not so farfetched, if the River Kappa really aren't hiding anything to do with the plot. They might be looking for an out, any allyship against the heat they're about to catch from all sides.]

Perhaps if we position ourselves as their saving grace, against worse forces.

They weren't all unfriendly when we interacted, just not willing to let us get into their business. So--yes. I don't think a lot of other groups are going to be willing to show them mercy, right now. It's our best opportunity to get in there, with that angle.

And if they're still closemouthed and guarding their secrets even in this situation, that's information too, that they consider them important enough to risk this level of alienation, of potential punishment.
