There is a system of four parties in place to deciding the punishments of criminals in my world. The judge, the jury, the defense and the prosecution - that would be myself. The defense does what you would presume from the title. They argue in favor of the accused, to lighten the punishment. Counter to the defense is my place - I represent the state and argue to prove the guilt of the defendant.

It is the judge and the jury who decide on the actual punishment after these proceedings.
