September 2022 Mini Event

While an official announcement hasn't been made yet, it is all but guaranteed that each faction will be sending out forces into the Wasteland to confront Iron Bear for that 100 Billion Bounty. Meanwhile, though...

1. SHUTEN CLAN

Training Day

The street gangs in the area continue to be of note. Normally, this would be a cause for some concern among the Shuten Clan. However, they're good news this time around. The glory of the bounty has caused several of the old gangs to disband and swear up with the Shuten Clan, instead of being a thorn in Toraguma's side. With new recruits, that means it's training day again. Get the new guys into shape by showing them the ropes. Team up among yourselves and instruct these unruly street bros what it means to be a member of the Shuten Clan!

Training day is expected to be rough, but hopefully it's a nice change of pace to be the one barking orders. Initiation rituals can range from hardcore drinking contests, to tests of physical strength, all the way to old reliable: fighting it out. You have a long lead on how creative and demanding you want to be. It's your clan too, after all.

Tools of the Trade

The bounty has just boosted the Shuten Clan's numbers, it has also triggered an increase for demand in weapons and arms. The Shuten's are seeing increased profits in their smuggling business. Sellers are being met with both would-be bounty hunters, and average citizens who are feeling anxious about the state of the world. Currently, Shuten arms shipments are a target to both thieves and the police. They need your protection. Thieves are not necessarily unaffiliated, the other factions would like in on this profit margin.

The Shuten Clan is calling on their lost souls to help transport, protect, and sell weapons. They want you to get these arms into the hands of anyone with the cash. To make your sales, you may want to demonstrate the unique benefits of the different options available. Clients come from all factions, so be on your best behavior to impress, and don't get caught up in a stupid sting operation. The Clan is not interested in losing money bailing you out.

OOC note; Any character outside Shuten can post a top-level trying to obtain Shuten weapons, either purchasing or attempting to steal them. Enma characters can also post top-levels related to this prompt.

2. TAMAMO CLAN

Bottom's Up

The fervor surrounding the bounty and the Wasteland is stressful. The Tamamo Clan specializes in stress relief of all kinds, and they are offering up some new potions just for the occasion. Some of these shady products are little more than placebos, while others might have actual effects. No one can really tell which is which, they all taste the same (read: bad). They might make you feel relaxed, or they might make you even more stressed out. That stress might even end up radiating onto the people around you. Who knows what they'll do, really. It's a dicey option, but maybe the distraction is worth it.

As this is the Tamamo Clan we're talking about, some of these potions will be aphrodisiac in nature. Hey, it's a form of stress relief. Still, the quality and intensity of these potions varies greatly, you don't entirely know what kind of ride you're signing up for.

The big gaps in quality of these potions is due to their rushed creation. Like all the other factions, the Tamamo Clan has other priorities right now as they prepare to head out...

OOC note: This is another "anyone can post a top level related to this prompt" one. We do ask if you're leaning towards the aphro option to properly label your top levels with the appropriate warnings!

Ancient Arts

Even the relaxed Tamamo Clan is feeling the tension in the city. Tenkohime has ordered mandatory weapons drills with the magical weapons in the Clan's armory. She's preparing for war and wants everyone to be at their best. You need to know every tool at your disposal. There are seals, explosives, traps, and more; some stranger than others. Test them on each other and maybe the unsuspecting members of other factions... Just try not to actually kill each other.

Weapons drills will be conducted where lost souls are encouraged to experiment with how different seals will interact with different weapons and abilities. Those who opine that the Tamamo Clan is merely the clan of "fox bitches" will be in a for a rude awakening when all the smiling threats become reality. Tenkohime herself, along with the old fox Kinsei, will be supervising training. Hunter Anna, who works alongside Kinsei in the armory, is also available to share a wealth of knowledge and tips.

They are all watching you with high expectations.

3. SUTOKU ALLIANCE

Jigokucho's Got Talent Part 2

While the last-minute help with filling holes in various clubs bookings was appreciated, a more permanent solution for Moonday's unfortunate hiatus is needed, urgently. One can't just replace the most popular band in the city overnight! It's time to look for Jigokucho's next top performance act to begin in earnest. And that means auditions.

All factions are encouraged to stop by Konoha to audition, but all the acts are judged solely by Alliance swear-ins. Your fate will ultimately come down to whether Sutoku can even tolerate you in their clubs, though. Hope your reputation doesn't precede you. Will you become a hit, or will you get the gong? The only way to find out is to try!

OOC note: Again, this prompt is more or less open to everyone. Sutoku characters are the only ones who can play the part of talent judge.

Running with Wolves

The White Wolves have concerns about the physical fitness of the Sutoku Clan. If we're going to the Wasteland, you need to be able to survive out there! The solution? Exercise drills! Mandatory ones! Yes, this means all you chain-smokers out there. You must pass the White Wolves' extremely high standards. Hope you like push-ups. And sit-ups. And pull-ups. There will also be a lot of running, sprinting, leaping, and other field sports.

Every single Sutoku swear-in is expected to participate. Even if you're an officer. Especially if you're an officer. No excuses will be accepted. And, look: even the Daitengu is participating. They seem to be having fun. You can try to weasel out of it, but good luck. The White Wolves are always vigilant, and they have perfected the disappointed puppy dog face. It will rend your heart in two more effectively than any swipe from their giant swords.

If you are looking for an example of White Wolves' standards, look to your resident junior member: Megumi.

4. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA

Friendly Reminder!

Despite the Department's best efforts, the unaffiliated bounty hunters continue to be a problem. There are just too many jerks out there looking for a payday, and the Enma's Department just can't handle them all. They may be the arbiters of law and order in the city, but they can only be in so many places at once. The manpower just isn't there for a full crackdown. But, at some point, inspiration strikes:

A memo circulates among department members instructing them to create several Public Service Announcements to dissuade these miscreants. Come up with creative setting ideas, involve the other members of the Department, and maybe some other factions, too. The best PSAs will receive a small token of the Enma's appreciation: a one-of-a-kind commemorative mug. Show these bounty hunters that their behavior will not be tolerated!

Toys for Good Children

The bounty hunters rounded up thus far have provided the Department with something useful: all of their confiscated gear. Melee weapons, guns, survival tools of all shapes, and a large collection of swords. The big item on the menu is weapons and ammunition, a lot of it. So much so that the storage at Kaigo no Bou is starting to burst at the seams.

Their weapons and tools may prove useful to the Enma...Well, once everyone figures out just what this stuff does. Some of it is your standard weaponry, some of it defies explanation. Sort through the gear and find what's useful, and what isn't. Anything that isn't too dangerous can be sent right back out on the streets. Give it to some thugs as a gift, they'll be grateful and maybe cause problems for the more chaotic factions. It's not your problem once it leaves your hands. And if you happen to get something in return for your generous donation? No one saw a thing.

OOC note; Another prompt where mostly anyone can participate, at least in the "letting the weapons filter back into the streets" aspect. Have your character cut a deal with a Department member to get a cool weapon!

5. ALL FACTIONS - WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE

During the evening news, the anchorwoman is visibly sweating and looking increasingly panicked. She goes on in a trembling voice to say that they have been sent a message from... Iron Bear.

They play the tape...

"I'm disappointed in all of you. You've become fat off of the raven's labor, amassing ill-gotten wealth and resources. I will not stand idly by while what is rightfully mine is disgraced by tainted, swollen fingers. None of this is yours and I will be the one to reclaim it.

But know what is coming next will not be done by us.

When this city is in ashes, it is by my redeeming hand you will rise. Only I will be able to rebuild this world, and restore its glory.

They cannot save you.

We are the holy chosen of this realm, and we know who you are!"

When the tape has concluded, there is a sudden and impactful rumble in Shuten territory. One of their weapon storehouses, namely one that contains plenty of volatile materials, explodes violently. It scatters fire into the nearby streets. Shuten forces will need to rush in to help clear anyone out, but anyone nearby is expected to help. Most of the area is non-residential, so casualties should be minimal, if rescue efforts are quick. But that's just the start of it...

The Iron Bear's words ring true. The bomb couldn't have been planted by his followers, not completely unseen. Someone else planted that bomb. Worse, there are more bombs throughout the city that need to be defused. Time is ticking down quickly, and no one knows whom to trust.

The factions have already begun to sabotage each other. The Iron Bear delivered the first blow of this new war without lifting a finger. Things are looking rough...

[ That does help a little bit. This woman has a lot of various and ambiguous relationships with several Lost Souls, not all of which involve much sobriety — for all she knows, corresponded is halfway a euphemism — but if they spoke on the Network, then it's nothing so complicated. She's bad with texting. It had to have been her post about Nishitani. She doesn't know if that's better or worse, honestly. ]

Does it matter? [ Her refusal to give a straight answer probably betrays her a little. ] I'm here to help. And your clan needs the extra hands.

[ Dryly then, as she gives him a look: ]

Why? Don't you trust the Department's agents?

[He thinks it won't happen, so the soft sound of surprise he makes when he's actually kissed sounds deafening in his own ears. It's actually quiet, barely more than a breath.

He returns the kiss gently, but he does return it, and a hand slips into Nazuna's hair once again.]

[He listens carefully, taking it in. It's ridiculous to Sannan that he's managed to fall for a former god, but none of the rest of it fazes him. He knew he was up against someone who'd lived a long life, who had experiences that made him able to understand even the most abstract concerns.]

There's no need to apologize. I'm sure there's someone out there who would try to use you, or hold the information against you... Or perhaps worse, put you on an unnecessary pedestal.

[Zhongli clearly doesn't mind not being put on that pedestal. He's treated Sannan as nothing but an equal, and Sannan is so much less than in certain ways that it's almost laughable.]

I'm not even entirely surprised. This also doesn't change how I see you, or how I feel. I might be terribly curious to hear thousands of years of stories, but other than that... You're just you, to me. You accepted me as I am, and I've never had any intention of doing anything but the same for you.

[Now it's Sannan's turn to divert his eyes.]

My curiosity always takes its toll on others. I'm sorry for asking you to speak of something difficult.

[Hello, people of Jigokucho. Do you want weapons? Here's some weapons, and the one giving them away is none other than this...guy with clown makeup. Hi. He's giving a sneer as you come closer to pore over his wares.]

See anything you like? [He says, dryly - and if you reach for something, he's reaching down to slap your hand in an instant.] Use your mouth. Tell me what you desire, and I'll determine if you are ever so worthy.

[Go back to theater, Hamlet.]

2. CH-CH-CH-CH-CHERRY BOMB (OTA)

[Now this is pandemonium. When a bomb goes off, the young man known as Moriarty freezes in place as rumble cascades down around him, smoke filling the air - but there's utterly no panic in his face as he leaps back and gently lands on the ground. Instead, his dark eyes narrow, completely focused, before he starts moving down the street, away from the explosion. Whoever is nearby, you'll get a cold stare aimed right through you - Moriarty speaks, his tone determined, with no waver in his voice.]

Where one is, more will follow. This is no time to be a deer in headlights. Come along.

[But then, he suddenly doubles over with a coughing fit, his expression nothing short of frustrated as he tries to catch his breath.]

I-Ignore me. Let's go.

[Later, Nazuna will probably be surprised himself. But right now, even if it's soft, he can feel Sannan return the kiss and that's all the encouragement he requires. His head is full of dangerous thoughts, but he wants to maintain the gentle, sweetness of this kiss until it ends.

But it's that very soft, romantic nature that flusters him the most... even though he was the one who started it. It's not like there's any reason to whisper since they're alone but it still comes out that way. Because it feels like he's saying things he shouldn't-- tempting things he shouldn't.]

I'm a pretty selfish person, you know... you should be careful.

Well, I assume they simply failed to anticipate the volume.

[She gestures around them at all the excess weaponry.]

Besides, the confiscation campaign still impeded the reckless bounty hunting activity, at the very least, and now we're in a position to prioritize the containment of the most dangerous weaponry and ensure that the weapons that are returned to the streets are the least likely to disrupt order.

[Apparently she's thought about this. Or she's very good at coming up with this sort of logic on the spot. Either way.]

Tasers can be useful. But you have to be in close range to really make use of them. And I don't know about you, but I prefer to keep things at an arm's length if I can.

[ Just look at her. If she threw a punch, she'd reduce her arm to powder.

She starts tentatively sorting through the weapons on her own part, apparently content to let the conversation lapse back into silence, but she glances up again when Monika speaks. She hesitates, turning back to the weapons, but she does at least give an answer. ]

... Ryoko Shinonome. From the Tamamo Clan as well. [ ... ] Have you been here long?

[It's difficult for Sannan to explain that he's more selfish than Nazuna will probably ever know, and that if Nazuna isn't careful he's going to bring out other desires. There's too much to get into that he's kept from him, and he should feel worse about not telling him everything... But this is gentle and sweet and something Sannan misses in a way that rips his heart out of him when it's offered.

So rather than say things or explain himself, he does the worst thing he can think of, kissing Nazuna again.]

[The youkai scrambles back while Haru lifts the table, wiggling free and attempting to climb to their feet. "I'll try," they answer, and start limping toward the exit that Zelgadis holds open.]

[ How is it that this killer robot looking guy has been easier and less frustrating to work with than most of the people in her clan so far... ]

I should be able to pinpoint a little further – that's what these are for.

[ She holds up one of the instruments she'd taken from the basket of her bike - it looks almost like a tuning fork but carved and decorated in the imagery of the Tamamo Clan. She passes it side to side a few times before giving it a short tap and getting a low-toned chime in response. ]

... it's in one of the rooms to the left side, but I can't narrow it down any more than that.

[It's too late to worry about being careful. If Sannan still wants this-- wants him after hearing his warning, he's not going to fight it. A small sigh slips past his lips as he wraps his arms loosely around his neck; returning the kiss without hesitation, giving without question.]

[ maybe he really should. regardless sabo will nod at kuro's explanation as he picks up the knife that was mentioned to examine it. he doesn't toss it into the air or do anything like that but simply just raises it and lowers it a few times. ]

I see.

[ he'll draw it close as to be ready to strike with it. ]

I don't tend to use knives or swords when I fight. They've never suited my style very well. [ and back onto the display it goes. ] Obviously I know I'm in the minority given how popular they are.

Not to mention, it's much more efficient in getting rid of any nasty pests.

Good thing for her that Shoto didn't like being late, he enjoyed being early and was there at least ten minutes before their arranged meeting. It's not hard to figure out whom he was meeting at five thirty PM at night in the middle of a parking lot to then engage in knife practice which isn't at all sketchy. At least to Shoto who takes people at face value they're not about to murder him, and if they try, they'll have a damn fight on their hands.

He should have learned his lesson with Yuuji but no. He's here, after his patrol with his hood pulled up in a dark, hoodie with one hand in the pockets and his left hand holding a small bag. It's a paper bag as are the handles, a gift bag if you will. "Good evening. This is for you."

Those same ladies are his go to and when he decided not to go with their first wardrobe choice, they asked why. So. Revel in the gift that they helped him pick out. or don't and re-gift it to someone else at Christmas.

[ sabo will be well behaved and will not reach out for any weapons before he is allowed to have any. ...not that he is sure he is even going to get one from this clown. and he is most definitely not going to judge him for the clown make-up as he is for the attitude.

[ he's going to raise an eyebrow to this. ]

How will you go about making that determination?

[He is not at all dissuaded by the challenge to his claim - he simply folds his arms, staring the man down.]

Tell me about your background. Have you used any weapons in the past?

[ well, if he wants to be like that, sabo will also cross his arms over his chest and give him a look back. he'll be mostly pleasant, however. mostly. ]

A bit personal, isn't it? The first question, I mean, but I've handled a fair number of different weapons in my past.

My personal preference would be for a staff of sorts.

Personal? It's a logical question. Mathematically logical in its preciseness, after all.

[He lets out a hum.]

A...staff? Explain.

[A certain mathematician is going through the Tamamo District - he is NOT going to repeat the magazine incident from earlier, but he's growing irritated at several Tamamo clan recruits approaching with their selection of potions as he's trying to go down the street. With several flippant gestures, he's trying his best to WALK REAL FAST away from these eager souls, snapping with some irritation.]

Go on! Shoo! What makes it seem like I need stress relief? [And as he moves forward, he almost bumps into someone, hopping away to the side gracefully at the last moment.] Ah! [And a beat.] Oh. It's you. Mister Nero.

Can you show me?

[ He looks a little more eager and willing to learn now. Copying others, like what Sen mentioned about watching the king with his swordplay, is something he seems to be good at--or at least, he claims to be. ]

[it's a coincidence; they really were just nearby. but they aren't about to argue about it when there's the possibility of more lives at stake. they stand up straight and lower their hands, and there's a full six vertical inches between the two of them, and it gives them an idea. they point one finger deeper into the flames around them.]

I'll go back there. I can get through smaller spaces in case anything's fallen over. Can you carry people if I drag them out here?

[they're talking with more authority than before, taking this far more seriously than in any conversation before. this isn't idealism at play; this is raw desire to help others. whether this is the potential that the daitengu saw in them or not, they don't have time to consider.]

[ Huh, he's pretty sure Moriarty is in another clan, wonder what he's doing back here again? He doesn't seem that into being chased after here. ]

You seem a little stressed.

[ But Nero doesn't bother pressing any harder than that. ]

Doing okay?

[Investigations take you places. Even to the places of indulgence. He just straightens himself, brushing himself off like he's gotten dust on him from the little hop. He's fine.]

People need to keep their hands to themselves. [And a sigh.] No. Tracking down information without an excellent network is harder than expected.

[As a criminal mastermind, he's used to collecting the best for his personal network. This is not the best, in his opinion.]

Mathematically? I'm not sure I follow with you there.

[ how is his background related to math in any way? well, guess sabo could probably logic it out but he also rather not out of stubbornness. ]

Yeah, a staff. [ how does one go on elaborating. hmm. ] Such as a bo staff, a quarterstaff, chang gun, or a very long metal pipe.

[ a soft laugh. ]

It compliments my fighting style as well as what I'm most practiced with. They're also quite useful in reaching for things in hard to reach places.

I strongly recommend full leathers if you're going into the desert, in general. That dust gets everywhere... Including really uncomfortable places.

[ Lio turned to Chris, letting out a small hum. ]
