I think the focus of the story seems to be that it was miraculous to be given the chance to meet, even if it's such a long time between meetings. And to make it so everyone can celebrate, they decided-- well, certainly, everyone has a wish, don't they?

That isn't really the case for those who wish to be in a marriage-- rather, not everyone wants that. I'd be curious, though, to see how it came about.
