[ the fact that mort detects no actual bloodlust or the innate desire to kill him that he's seen hundreds of times in others, while admittedly less than ideal, also struck him as intriguing. it meant she wasn't being pushed— while she did take a defensive stance, it meant she was still perfectly capable of holding her own. that alone was enough to satisfy any disappointment he felt over her lack of resolution to end him.
then again, he supposed that wasn't necessarily the rules of this arena. it was a matter he was meant to forgive, and he supposed if the entertainment they provided was this immense, he had no reasons for grudge-bearing. but, that isn't to state that his mind is already devising future tactics wherein, maybe she will want to kill him with time. after all, everyone was capable of it, it was just that each person had their own trigger or formula, and he would just have to figure out hers.
however, as much as he enjoys the exchange, he does realize it's swiftly coming to an end. the timing is clear to him and he suspects there was only the wiggle room for about 30 seconds at most. he feels like he hasn't fully had his fill if he hadn't truly been at the mercy of her blade, and so he acts in a way that's fully unprecedented. he discards the spear he held, stabbing it into the ground near his feat, before he attempts to stop her blade by grasping at her hands that wield it.
it's a swift motion, and while reckless, he shows no hesitation. he places all his strength into the grip, but despite his strength, her speed is also no joke as he's definitely got a little too close. not fully parrying or dodging the blade was obviously a bit problematic, but not something he laments over. it grazes his arm slightly, but it doesn't stop or slow his motions in the slightest, but it's as he does that he suddenly ceases his movements completely.
time is almost up, three, two— ] I concede. [ it could have been a draw if he played it neutrally, yes, but something about that didn't sit right with him. but, he supposed it could never be a real fight unless she truly wanted his head. still, that isn't to say he already enjoyed himself thoroughly. ]
