SNAKES & ROSES

[ They arrive together. Her dress is red and silky, detailed in gold snakes and with roses pinned to her chest. The heels of her shoes are also gold snakes. She enters the party on the arm of her snake, his suit in black and red. He makes sure she has his arm comfortably as they take the few stairs up out of the entryway. They've come to support the celebration of the host's promotion, but look on the general debauchery without much investment. They go to the bar together to pick out drinks, where they flirt quietly with each other. With their drinks they move off to a booth together too.

And that's where they stay. Allowing waitstaff to refill drinks and bring by food for them. People they know come in and out, but they remain where they are. When it's just the two of them, they people watch and observe the whirlwind of activity around them; pointing out sights of interest as gamblers ride high and fall far, as dancers pull out their best moves, or hapless advances fall flat between some other young couple.

But if you stop by their table, they're certainly gracious enough to say hello.]

AN EARLY NIGHT

[ They get up to leave at midnight, arguably when the best is yet to come. He keeps his arm around her waist as they work their way towards the door, making their excuses and goodbyes as they go. Yes, we're heading out now. ]

[ Izō has been ... busy, judging by his current state. A little bit sloppy, his vest open and rumpled just like his shirt, his jacket long since left behind to be discovered later, hair down and loose around his shoulders, but at least he looks relaxed and happy.

He greets them with a wave and a kiss for each of them. ]

'Ey, look at ya...Dressed t' kill, ain't ya?

i. poolside
[No one can say Childe hasn't put effort in. Light grey suit, burgundy shirt left partly unbuttoned and his hair half pushed back, he actually sort of look like he might belong in organised crime- or, come to think of it, a military outfit led by a god- rather than a juvenile detention centre for once. Neither is he looking for a fight. That said, no amount of power dressing can hide the playful glint in those dead eyes of his those, the mischievousness tilt of his lips.

While he drifts here and there throughout the evening, he first spends a little time by the pool, not so much because he feels like a dip- though if he'd known, he might have brought a change of clothes- but because it's already a hub of activity. Drink in hand, he sits at a small table to the side and, in between fleeting conversations, enjoys the Vibes.

That is, until he can't quite resist the temptation to act up. As usual, his Vision is clipped to his belt and it gives him away long before he himself does, though with the kaleidoscopic lighting, it might be hard to spot. Whoever Childe's target is, whether they're simply relaxing nearby or looking for a seat, they might catch a glimpse of him pretending to roll his shoulders-

His Vision glows. He quirks a hand.

Water sprays over the edge of the pool in the same way it might if someone had just dive-bombed into it, showering the unlucky bystander. Whoops.]

ii. sos
[After the hellish hangover of the week before, Childe's taking it easy on the drinks tonight. He's already moved on to virgin cocktails and, at present, is struggling through both a glass of unexpectedly carbonated water and an unwanted conversation. Somehow, he's been locked into what feels like an unending explanation of pachinko machine maintenance courtesy of a tipsy casino floor manager and every time he tries to bow out, he ends up dragged back in. There's only so much "mmm"ing and nodding he can do before he loses patience- which is why his expression turns downright revalatory when he spots an escape.

Without warning, he reaches out, claps another party-goer on the arm as they pass by and produces his most charming smile. Does he know them? Maybe. Does he care? Absolutely not.]

There you are! I've been looking for you all night, you know- didn't you promise me a dance?

[Mr. Pachinko won't see it while Childe's back is turned to him but all the charisma in the world couldn't hide the gently pleading look in his eyes. Save me before I drown this guy in the pool.]

[kissing him back, she smiles, happy to see him in what looks like his element. him going in earlier was clearly for the best, if he's gotten more chance to relax. whatever he wants to do, after all.

mentally, she notes to bring him some of her hangover cure whenever he reemerges.]

It's good to meet with your approval. Having fun?

[she knows the answer, but it's polite to ask. the revelry is strong and will get stronger - who knows where the
night will end? ]

[ Really, this is just what Majima is going to look like now. Any friendly ease from his casual look is going away. He inclines his cheek in for Izo's kiss and pats his back. He also has no interest in indulging in anything at this party, so Izo can go out and be debauched for the three of them. ]

[ Of all the people for Childe to grab at. ]

[ He's here for a refill, not to get roped into gladhanding whoever might want his attention. There's a strip poker game going on downstairs and that's where he wants to be. Given that Nishitani is wearing a casual suit for the party, he's not exactly looking to be recognized beyond having drinks bought for him. ]

[ The moment Childe touches him, Nishitani goes to pull away before seeing who it is. ]

[ The expressions that pass his face are instant: distaste at being touched, amusement at who reached out, then delight at seeing why. Blood in the water, and Nishitani is a shark. Some saviour. ]

Chi-chan, I thought you'd ducked out. [ Nishitani obviously leers over Childe, making no efforts to hide the attention. ] I told you begging suited you, baby.

1. Pretty Colors
[ Dancing isn't really her thing. She only ended up watching for a bit before wandering off. Eventually she finds herself at the bar. Her usual is quite a bit more plain than what she's seeing here. The colorful drinks catch her attention. She stops to watch one being made and served to someone seated at one of the bar stools as she makes herself comfortable atop the next one over. ]

What's that?

2. Something's Missing
[ Once she finds the hot tub she can't resist. Her dress and swimsuit all come off and she gets right in. Just the thing for sore muscles. She could soak here for hours. She's barely settled in but when she looks around she realizes her clothes they aren't where she left them. Could one of the staff have moved them when she turned her back? Or it could be that someone's messing with her. She leans over the edge and calls out. ]

Hey! Have you seen my swimsuit?

[There are a limited number of options available to Childe right now. Nishitani is a damned vulture and however this plays out, he's going to take his time picking the meat off the bones of his embarrassment but he could still save some face. Grab the opening, laugh it off and get out. You know, like anyone else might do in the situation. Childe, however, doesn't see an out: he sees a challenge.

So he goes all in.]

You weren't avoiding me, were you, Зайчик?

[Ignoring the bewildered silence of the man behind him- well, something good's come out of all of this- Childe steps forward and drapes his arm across Nishitani's shoulder. A spurned lover's pout replaces his smile- but the grip he has on him is like iron.]

Did I..?

[ while childe may be sticking to virgin drinks, ryouma is... not. he's lost track of how much drinking he's done at this point, but it's enough to be noticeable. if he's supposed to look more dignified because of his job, he's not doing that either. ryouma is here to have a good time!! it's safe to say he's willing to go along with your little game, childe. ]

Well, either way, ya got my attention.

① SHOTS!!

[ so far, only other members of the alliance have seen this outfit, so what a perfect time to debut it for the rest of hell. ryouma has come here as izō's +1, and he's not exactly hiding.

that being said, he's definitely here to have a good time! he works all the time — almost constantly! — so he's really making an effort to not do that right now. ]

Hey! It's a party, so let's drink together, huh?

[ he can't escape who he is, or the fact that deciding to show up at this party is potentially an awful decision, but he's going to try!! whoever he's roped into his fun (because he's not exactly paying attention...) gets an arm thrown around their shoulders and a messily poured cup of sake set in front of them, but at least there's a free drink for your trouble? ]

② POOLSIDE

[ somehow ryouma has climbed halfway up one of the palm trees around the pool. hanging from it is not that hard, really, since he doesn't tire out as easily as a human does, but he's still a dumb drunk hanging from a palm tree with a drink in his hand.

maybe you didn't come over here for any reason having to do with him, but he doesn't know that. ]

'M not comin' down. Ya can't make me!

[ he'll regret this tomorrow, maybe. ]

[Someone's a little merry, aren't they? It's hard not to be endeared to him, particularly when he detects a hint of an accent he'd never noticed before- is that the alcohol lowering his guard? It sort of reminds him of Izō. Cute.]

Do you really not remember? I'm hurt. [aaand he locks his arm firmly around ryouma's there is no escaping now] Come on, let's go.

[He throws Mr. Pachinko a winsome smile over his shoulder, completely cold to the look of confusion on his face. Thankfully, he's too drunk to notice his insincerity.]

Splendid talking to you! I never realised that so much went into pin maintenance.

[ considering the alternative to merry is overworked and stressed... yes. yes he is. his drunken state contributes to the appearance of his accent, that's very true, but more significantly to the fact that trying to hide his identity at this point would just be silly. he mostly hid his accent to keep his true name a secret, after all. ]

Aw. Lemme make it up t' ya then!

[ ryouma has no idea who mr. pachinko is or what "pin maintenance" involves, but he waves at the poor guy enthusiastically with the hand not attached to the arm childe is holding onto. ]

Yer friend gonna be upset I'm stealin' ya away?

[ it's debatable who is stealing who here, but if there was any question, ryouma definitely didn't notice the way childe was suffering in the conversation he was trapped in at all. ]

[would u like a rundown because childe is now intimately familiar with the ins and outs of ball sizes, tiny hammers and tilts

Regardless, he misses his chance to hear anything about it from the man himself. Childe is steering Ryouma away before either of them can say a word more- so yes, he's definitely the one doing the stealing here.]

Hm? He'll get over me. [He grins and, while not letting go just yet, loosens his hold on the other man's arm once they're out of sight.] I haven't seen you in a while. How are you enjoying your new found fame?

[Infamy? Both, really.]

Mm, been real busy! I get a lotta concerned texts now. [ more than usual! it's kinda endearing. ] And "what didja do now, stupid" texts.

[ ~~those are from hizen and izō.~~ ryouma laughs because he clearly finds this funny and takes it seriously not at all. ]

Some people send me stuff. Y' could be one of 'em if ya buy me a drink~

[ he really doesn't need one because he's already annoying enough, but can you resist this face, childe? ]

Where are my manners! Of course, comrade.

[Unsurprisingly, it's not difficult at all to direct Ryouma towards the bar- Childe suspects that he's been a regular customer all night- and, good as his word, he immediately leans over the counter to get the bartender's attention. But there's a catch; while he orders two vodka cranberries, he gestures for her to leave the former out of one of them.

No one specified it had to be an alcoholic drink.]

Oh, and what's that supposed to mean? [Elbow up on the bar, he rests his cheek against his gloved palm.] What kind of "stuff"?

God, yer this fuckin' bad already? Night's barely started, dumbass!

[ Playful and said just moments before downing the sake placed in front of him. ]

If yer gonna drink, ya better be able t' hold it better'n that!

Aw, c'mon! Ya just ain't seen me cut loose for a while! This is nothin'!

[ he fully intends to do his best to keep up even though he knows he always has to tap out early. plus, he thinks he has an edge because he recently got his servant powers back. ~~he's probably wrong.~~ ]

Actually, it ain't much. Got a little appreciation gift from the boss and a few pity drinks for comin' in dead last with the Celestials from Ydris.

[ so not really a lie, just vague as always, and that "gift" is actually a pretty big deal, but nobody needs to know that. ]

Hehe, but it worked anyway, so I guess it didn't matter!

[Little, huh? Something tells him that, after everything Ryouma's managed to accomplish, it might not be as insignificant as he's making it out to be. But that's fine. He'll let him keep that secret for now.

Their drinks turn up a few moments later, a meaningful glance from the bartender letting Childe know which is which, and without missing a beat, he slides the vodkaless one towards Ryouma. The drinks look almost crystalline under the strobe lights, ruby and diamond ice with a peridot-coloured slice of lime setting it off.]

Busy, busy. [He chuckles.] Must be nice to let your hair down after all that.

Y' got no idea.

[ he chuckles and picks up his drink. childe's deception remains undetected so far because ryouma is the dumb, trusting sort. ~~or he's just never careful anyway.~~ in either case, he doesn't seem to notice there isn't any vodka in it. he's probably drunk enough already for the booze placebo effect to work where he just believes he's getting more drunk anyway. ]

I'm real glad Izō invited me! I was real surprised...

[ and for a few seconds the dreamy, lovey look on his face is obvious while he talks about izō because ryouma is embarrassing and projecting his feelings tonight, but it goes away because he has a question of his own because this conversation isn't only about him!! he's sutoku, he's supposed to be asking questions or whatever. ]

What've y' been doin'? Didn't get all caught up in all that curse mess didja?

[Any illusions that Childe might have missed That Look are instantly dispelled as he leans forward, seizing on it to side-step Ryouma's own question. It's not as subtle as he'd like but he suspects his partner isn't as eagle-eyed as he normally might be.]

Izō, huh. Interesting guy- a lot of fun too. [The little nudge he gives him is playful but his question is savage- not to mention ballsy- in its directness.] Are you lovers?

[ Childe playing a lover scorned, draping himself off Nishitani, isn't going to upset him any. Nishitani's arm goes around Childe's waist, groping his ass as Nishitani leans down and instantly starts licking and biting at Childe's neck, just under his jaw. ] Of course not. Figured you'd just found some other daddy to ride for the night.

[Congratulations, Nishitani, you've thrown Childe for a loop. For a few seconds, he seems just as startled as the man behind him- then he grins and there's nothing teasing at all in the dangerous curve of his lips.]

Easy. [Calmly, he hooks a finger beneath Nishitani's chin, lifts it and bites down on his lower lip. Hard enough to sting but light enough to merely serve as a warning.] We have company.

[At least, they did. Mr. Pachinko has already slunk off, probably because he's far too drunk to deal with this shit.]

[ childe suddenly being closer isn't what ryouma was expecting, so it takes him a second or two to parse what he's asking. ]

... Eh?

[ wait. did he—..? just outright ask that?? w e l l then. ]

Heh, sure are.

[ once he recognises the question, he doesn't shy away from it despite his obvious blush. ryouma's told izō what he feels, but saying it so openly is new and different. no reason not to though. ]

'Course, we go way back too. Known each other since we were kids, back in Tosa. Why? Ya interested?

[There it is. Not that Ryouma was being subtle or anything when that gentlee, glassy-eyed stare said everything way before he could. Childe's smile softens and he can't fight another little laugh at the new colour in his cheeks.]

Childhood sweethearts! How romantic.

[It's easy enough to imagine how the two could fit together. Ryouma tempering Izō's choleric steel; Izō's infectious, chaotic passion catching like fire. Water and fire. Kind of sweet, really.]

Who are you asking for- Izō or yourself?
