Tanabata is on the horizon, and the city seems to be recovering well from last month. But there's work to be done, and it's time to get to it...

1. SHUTEN CLAN - THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS

With construction wrapping up, the new Shuten Clan casino will be opening soon. The casino has a number of new staff positions opening. It is a golden opportunity for anyone looking for a cash rich position. The money promised upon assignment to the underground casino is bound to be life-changing. Given the potentials in clientele, Toraguma is expecting the very best. Shutens are to report to the above ground Celestial Phoenix casino for their training.

They will be taught all the traditional casino fare, both Japanese and abroad. This includes being taught how to cheat at these games as well. For example:

• Blackjack dealers will learn card count, and how to catch others doing the same.
  
• Roulette attendants will learn both how and when to discreetly adjust the wheel.
  
• Craps and Cee-lo dealers will learn how to feel for loaded dice and how to switch in the house's dice without notice.
  
• Cee-lo dealers are also taught a specific way to line the dice tray to cause more lost throws.
• Cho-Han dealers will learn how to distract players as they adjust the dice.

That's not all the Shutens will be learning. The clan needs skilled bouncers as well: people who can handle rowdy customers or haughty celestials. The more tenured Shutens will take up the roles of rude customers and challenge the trainees in how to handle them.

While not everyone will receive employment in the casino, they are all expected to participate in training. Shuten officers are expected to guide and oversee their juniors.

2. TAMAMO CLAN - CHARM SCHOOL

The Tamamo Clan also has preparations to make in anticipation of the underground's opening. The clan is opening their own brothel and cabaret, as well as providing food and drink services to the new Shuten casino.

All Tamamo Clan members must report for training at Mizukume. The lesson of the day is to use one's charisma to secure a huge payout. For example:

• Hosts and hostesses will learn the art of schmoozing away clients' money.
  
• Performers will learn more provocative means of soliciting large tips.
  
• Oiran are taught the erotic arts; the perfect balance to both please a client, and how to leave them begging (and paying) for more. There's no technique Tenkohime finds too shameful. Money is power, and power is freedom.
  
• Food service workers are provided master classes in mixology, plating, and how to serve high-profile clients without breaking a sweat.

Each role comes with its own set of pressures, but also the promise of great reward. Everyone is going to get rich, if everyone plays their part well.

Tenured Tamamo are asked to roleplay as clients for the benefit of those Lost Souls new to the work. While not everyone will be selected to work in the Underground, everyone is expected to train for it.

3. SUTOKU ALLIANCE - BLACK MARKETS AND BACK ALLEYS

After months of meetings, it's finally time for some real action. Sutoku Lieutenant Ryouma Sakamoto has made some pretty big commitments on the Alliance's behalf. His temerity comes from his earnest belief in the other Sutoku Lost Souls! No pressure, though!

To succeed, the Alliance must determine who is behind the current black market operation. Ryouma is relying on the Alliance's extensive information network and the hard work of the Lost Souls to make it happen.

This is the work that Ryouma mentioned when he welcomed the new arrivals recently.

This assignment is all about what you know. The Sutoku need to learn more about the competition, through any means necessary. The Alliance wants to know everything about what goods are moving around the city and who is moving it. Time to follow the money. You might even discover an unfulfilled niche in the market through your investigations.

The current influx of Stardust in the city is a great opportunity to investigate the existing dealers and supply lines. The Alliance is gathering Stardust just like everyone else, but it is becoming increasingly scarce as the factions vie for it. The value of this commodity is shooting up every day. Take some cash or other compelling bartering tools with you to grease the palms of a few shady dealers. Try to convince them to be more honest about their supply lines, beyond just the sparkly stuff. Stick the landing, and you might just be closing in on the heart of those shipping loopholes.

This is no easy undertaking. Creativity and tenacity will determine just how far you can go. Be careful not to be too obvious, the threat of unwanted attention will cause your sources to clam up.

4. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA - CRACK DOWNS

The Stardust's street presence has shifted naturally over the past few weeks: from an easy resource to simply scoop up in garbage bags overnight to a hot commodity. The street value of the material has increased considerably, and that means that the unaffiliated street gangs are greedy to get in on the action.

Enma officers are called upon to round up any black market dealers of Stardust and confiscate as much of their supply as they can find. This might just bring them into some direct conflict with the Sutoku Alliance members hoping to connect with market insiders. That's just how things boil out sometimes, though.

It is more important to the Department to get Stardust out of the hands of the black marketeers… and into their own lockers.

Officers are given permission to use any amount of force against individual actors, and members of the Law and Records Department are expected to draft up warrants (no matter how doctored) to obtain access to buildings they otherwise would never be allowed into; even Mizukume and the Arena. The Department's orders are clear: if it's not an approved market, shut it down.

This is in the name of maintaining Order, so get out there. Move at least in pairs, or you're likely to meet some serious resistance, and keep an eye out for the newbies.

5. ALL FACTIONS - LUNAR RABBIT RETURNS

It isn't just the factions, dealers, and petty gangs who are interested in the Stardust now that it's a premium item.

A familiar face has resurfaced: the mysterious gyokuto medicine woman and her army of white rabbits. While her little kin have managed to gather a healthy amount of Stardust for her "research", she still needs more. She is willing to pay a huge premium to those who retrieve more materials for her.

She understands that this will require you to either pilfer from one of the factions, or potentially someone even more dangerous. She will be providing samples of one of her drugs, which can grant temporary invisibility in moonlight. Use it for whatever hijinks you want, but she really would prefer if you brought her the goods in the end.

If invisibility doesn't cut if for you, she can provide another sample that provides 10 times your normal strength. While you can KO anyone who gets in your way, it wears off within 5 to 10 seconds. She is very clear that you should not take more than 3 doses of this, or you will very possibly die. Probably. Maybe? It will be unpleasant. So use it only when you need to.

The reward for getting her some Stardust, depending on the amount, can easily pay all a character's expenses for a month, if not longer. The temptation is great, but do you trust this strange rabbit woman?

If anyone from Sutoku explains their deal when he's nearby, he'll probably help them in the thick of it. That's right, he thinks tracking down who's causing what is a noble cause! He'll just also have to take that Stardust from them after, sorry!

Looking for 2-4 Enma partners for general enforcing and potentially 2 Sutoku folks to bargain/work with on that end. Caveat: all parties better be able to keep their mouth shut about the shady dealings!

Well, she's been leaning the occasional bit of mixology from Shylock and working as FOH staff for a high class restaurant for the last few months, so while I'm hesitant to offer her as someone who can do the training side of things, she can at least give newbies a few pointers on the basics, maybe?

Aside from that, please give me horrible hostess school shenanigans. She will not be on board for it but I like to make her suffer. Teach her the art of better flert, or just be a feral jerk with her.

Barok van Zieks | Enma

Van Zieks is no longer a cop, he's a lawyer. He's the person giving out those dang warrants for you. That opens him up to a few potential prompts:

1. If you're a lower ranking officer, van Zieks is going to send you out to gather evidence for him to base his warrants around and he expects results. You always wanted a paper-pushing attorney to command you to work harder in your field work, riiight?
2. If your character also works in the Law department, welcome to overtime. These warrants will be clean, no shortcuts, everything is going to be sound and fair. You will stay at Kaigo no Bou after normal work hours to ensure this, won't you?
3. If you're from another faction and have any (suspected) black market ties, you may just be one of the people contacted about those warrants... Maybe complain right to the person who's signature is on it?

... or if you have another idea, I'm all ears. I'm open for up to two people for each option, with no limit on wildcards.

This can be whatever you want, and I can handle 2-4 new CR threads as well as, albiet slower, a couple current CR threads too ;)

The Celestial is Nishitani's current baby, too. So if training causes any fuss during operating hours... Then that is also an option :)

Looking for any combination, here. I'll throw a top-level together as soon as there's some ideas going! As a tie-in, he spent some amount of his time at the festival stealing stardust from vendors and passing it off to other Enma, too. If you want to handwave already knowing he's tricky/reliable from that, let's go!

Matoba is happy to take on 2 Sutoku hands that aren't afraid to get a little rough/underhanded and are good at covering their tracks. He's fine with any methods from violence (as long as you don't kill anyone) to blackmail/coercion. Just don't let it connect back to you, and especially don't let it connect back to him.

You'll be paid well for your help, and he'll give suggestions of what individuals he's noticed lurking around the Alliance loan shark offices and other less savory areas- he spends a lot of his time just strolling around, people watching, to learn this stuff. Of course, he'll be out and hitting the pavement himself, too.

Sholmes is here to aid in the art of schmoozing via reading a client’s body language on the fly — something he is surprisingly good at! Looking for 2-3 people for him to both give helpful tips to and roleplay as a client with. Threads will probably be silly, but ultimately helpful…! Probably.

Lessons may or may not eventually lead to learning how to pickpocket a very drunk client, but everything is fine as long as you don't get caught, right!!

but on top of sleepless nights of overtime in as many departments as he can manage, I'd love to get him a few threads of trying to crack down on stardust. so maybe 3-4 people to partner up with him at separate times? he's more violent than he looks, and better than you'd think!

along those same lines, if anyone from other factions might want to be interrogated or even busted/an attempted busting of stardust, that would be fun! I don't mind if it's failure or not, or if we want to work on a threeway thread with another enma, etc etc. I'm open to all things!

I'll be hopping around picking up other things as I go, too, but it won't count towards my limit here.

obviously threads will take a nsfw flavor, but i'm down with them mostly veering away from that territory and just being folks hashing out how they feel about the situation, their contract, their anxieties and concerns. anesan is here to listen!

Sheliak has dabbled in gambling a little bit in his world but the games were different so other than learning to read his opponents, his limited experience is not going to help him out very much. He is used to dealing with unpleasant guests though and as an arrogant noble he can easily play the role of haughty celestial. Sheliak won't be happy about the cheating aspect of the training but he will reluctantly go along with it.

For Enma, Sutoku or anyone else involved in the black market search, Sheliak can breathe underwater and he could be convinced to help. He also has a stash of water breathing candies that he doesn't need anymore that might be useful.

Aster's going to be taking this training very seriously; although he's started work as a host already, it never hurts to really excel at whatever he turns his hand to. So, if anyone wants a buddy for the host training, he'll be really busting ass and ready to help other newbies out in return! Let Big Bro Aster help out...

...He'll also be looking longingly at the oiran training, since he feeds off of sexual fluids as well as blood. So if anyone's there, he'll leap at the chance to learn a little on that side as well!

i don't have any specific limits, but being new & fresh, i am def. looking out for cr! the sky is basically the limit, but i do want to preface this with mort has absolutely no customer service skills. he just happens to sound really suggestive when he's interested in someone — regardless of how that interest sort of sparks. i do want him to dabble in a few things, so...

- someone to mentor him in the ways of charm. which can go one of two ways, mort can probably take it too far, or he can feign ignorance if just because that might be more interesting. if someone is prepared to be potentially frustrated or potentially worried he's serious, then... he's your guy.

- he's also good at going with the flow as he try to appear somewhat easygoing or well mannered, so he could pretend he knows what he's doing as well to try and "train" someone since he likes to think of himself as the mentoring type. (he's not)

- mort might be interested in the food service route if just because he does enjoy a good drink. he is also the type that does like to learn... at least up until it bores him.

- oiran arts would be kind of interesting too. tbh, mort in canon is known to absorb anything he learns like a sponge, so he'd prob. be pretty proficient at whatever. i am also not opposed to this entering nsfw territory if anyone is interested in that.

- stardust shenanigans would also be really fun!

dosei's charm is...pretty much nonexistant, and nobody should let him within 50 feet of a kitchen unsupervised, so he's going to struggle. being a newbie, i'd like him to learn from maybe some far more experienced tamamo members, maybe 2-3 who can maybe (attempt) to teach him to be more of a people pleaser...which is a daunting task in itself. he's got a pretty face and definitely needs to learn how to use it. i don't mind which way it goes.

a note, dosei is also possessed by a rather suggestive, catty jorogumo named yome, and there's always the option to have a chat with her as well. she's definitely reveling in his misery and offering no assistance, and has a plethora of jokes and casual conversation to offer.
