Cain held the gaze back, as much as he wanted to look away. He didn't know how much of it was a show of power, but it mattered that he did not appear to be backing away at all. His Central stubborness had at least gotten him this far.
He missed Arthur.
"So you do know something else. I was in the tower there with you. With my other companions. Are you saying we don't have the right to know? I want to actually be able to help. This isn't even about politics."
Cain knew what he meant by that and by whatever gods ruled this place, he wished it were true. But politics ALWAYS found its way into the law no matter what, and it fell on them to guide it through the jungle of bad intentions.
"I want to be able to respect you and trust you as a leader. But acting like you are simply a force of nature won't get you any further. People will bring politics into anything they want to-it's just something that you need to prepare for. And I can't do my job if no one will answer my questions."
