[The first blast of cursed energy being released into Jigoku-cho had shattered his defensive wards like glass, but it’s fine; Yizhi expects a hitman who can deal with those things and put them up as a courtesy. It’s low enough on his priorities that it’s slipped his mind completely, what with blood streaking down his window.

The blood’s changed everything, honestly. He had a lot of thoughts and plans but it’s difficult to focus on them now, with noises from the corridor and miasma in the street; it's like the Yizhi that came up with them has fallen away along with the old bloodless city, and any attempt to reach them is like trying to reach through a mirror. Hizen would probably have preferred the past him, because the past him actually sleeps. The past him lives in an apartment that isn’t making weird noises every few minutes that scare the other residents into shrieking and crying.

Even at the late hour there’s a warm light shining from within the apartment. The television is on in the living room, playing some variety show at low volume, and Yizhi is on the couch glancing listlessly from the door to the window. His new apartment is cosy, but it’s still small, and there’s little space to hide for either of them. Yizhi pretty much stares at Hizen as his entrance of choice opens.]

[A part of him recognises what this is about. But most of him becomes preoccupied by Hizen’s blood-soaked clothing. It smells so bad from here; he can’t imagine how it must be to wear it, especially all the fabric right up against the man’s face.]

…um, okay. Are you alright? Can I get you a towel?

[Yizhi gets to his feet, sounding sincerely concerned.]
