As the Haniwa continue to pop up in the city and the turf war rages on, life goes on in the city.

1. SHUTEN CLAN

Remember the Isonade? Yeah, those guys. The surly shark-dudes who were no doubt involved in some black market smuggling along the banks of the Sanzu. They were too tough to fight off in order to figure out what they were up to, last time.

Well, Toraguma has caught wind of them now. Despite the ongoing turf war, he’s not about to lose out on an opportunity here! He wants his Shuten Clan operatives to scour the river looking for these guys. They will be a lot harder to find without the rabbits’ help, though. If you find them, you are to “inform them” that the Shuten Clan will be taking over their operation. If they have problems with that, well… you know what to do.

Don’t forget that they’re quite strong and that they aren’t too keen on giving up the information on their supply line without a fight. You’ll need to use teamwork to get what you need out of them.

Should you manage your way to their warehouse, you’ll find a fresh shipment of their products: specialized herbs, mineral-rich clay, and rarefied ore. None of these products can be found in the city naturally. The Isonade won’t dare name their primary buyer but they will let slip that all of this is being smuggled into the city from the outer Wastelands.

The Shuten Clan will demand their cut out of this operation, but you may get the impression that this is only one small piece of a much larger shadow creeping over the city…

2. SUTOKU ALLIANCE

The death and subsequent “rebirth” of the Daitengu has caused a considerable amount of chaos. Many of the subsidiary tribes have struggled under the weight of uncertainty during this debacle. The Daitengu has decided that an apology tour is owed. It’s good for the sake of the Alliance, after all.

Oh, but they’re not going to be doing it themselves. You, the Sutoku Lost Souls, will be fully responsible for it. ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

Sutoku Souls are tasked with going to various businesses and tribe centers with an offering of gifts and deference to any and every group within the Alliance who will agree to meet with you. The gifts have been provided by the Daitengu, and are mainly snacks and coupons. Which will not be enough to please everyone. Some clans will demand more and some, in their rage, will try to take their anger out on you. You are an (lowly) ambassador right now, better to turn the other cheek.

This all boils down to be less of an apology tour and more of a bribe tour. What the Daitengu has provided won’t cover everything and you’re going to have to go out of pocket to truly placate the other clans. If you don’t have enough cash on hand, you may be asked to do various unpaid tasks and labors: washing dishes, scrubbing floors, cleaning windows, taking out the trash, serving kids’ birthday parties; any amount of the lowest work you can imagine.

It’s rough! But somebody’s gotta do it

3. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA

The chaos of the Night Parade has caused a resurgence of unaffiliated gangs popping up around Jigokucho. They can usually be found identifying themselves through the use of basic colors and mascots. They are made up almost entirely of violent youths with uncertain futures, who are lashing out at an uncaring world. The antics of the Daitengu, the accusations against the Enma, and the squabbling between Shuten and Tamamo is not inspiring their confidence nor loyalty.

In addition to this problem, the retrieval of the Haniwa is going poorly. Most residents are too uncomfortable to even touch the statues and their appearances don’t seem to be slowing down. There are too many for the Department to collect.

With an abundance of cursed objects in town, the petty gangs have decided this is an ample resource for them. They are using the Haniwa to harass the general public and against one another. They have weaponized the excess Haniwa and are using them as “curse bombs”, hurling them at both each other and the residents they want to intimidate. It’s getting nasty.

It’s the Department’s job to keep the Haniwa figures from falling into the wrong hands and to keep some semblance of order. The official orders from the Office of the Enma are directing all hands to converge against the youth gangs. Use any force necessary and retrieve those figurines.

4. TAMAMO CLAN

How inconvenient! In addition to the complications of the turf war, an extremely important time of the year has arrived for the Tamamo Clan.

It is time for the yearly visit of one of the clan’s greatest benefactors: the Tennin. These Celestial Immortals descend from the Heavenly Realms to spend time (and incredible amounts of money) in Hell’s Playground, Jigokucho. Hell simply offers the sort of delights you just can’t get in Heaven. Due to Tenkohime’s connections with them, the Celestials have had her host them for several years in a row now. She emphasizes how incredibly important it is to keep them happy.

The Celestials want entertainment and delights of every variety. It’s up to the Tamamo Clan’s Lost Souls to entertain them. Your entertainments can take many forms: keeping the Celestials company, putting on a performance, showing off your cooking and skills, tea ceremonies, and other exhibitions. Should you choose the carnal and kinky route for entertainments, know that you won’t be laying down with any Celestials themselves. Oh, no no no, they’re Heavenly, after all! This is still performance, so you may need a partner to help you out.

Keep in mind that the legends are true! The Celestials are deeply deeply fond of peaches. Both literal and metaphorical. 🍑

The Celestials love to chat and gossip, so keeping them entertained is also an excellent way to hear some interesting information. Tamamo artisans will likely learn that many Celestials openly trade with Tenkohime. In fact, the aphrodisiac goods that the Tamamos so famously deal in come, in large part, from the Celestials. Tamamo isn’t the only clan they do business with either. They also have connections within the Sutoku Alliance and are the land owners of several Alliance properties. They are considered one of the primary sources of capital in the real estate market.

Why would the Celestials want properties in a world they literally can’t live in? Doesn’t that just reek of capitalism.

5. TURF WAR (ALL FACTIONS)

The turf war between the Shuten and Tamamo clans is at a simmer right now. Which doesn’t mean that it’s over – not even close. Minor magical traps, similar to those found in the sewer, have been found in Shuten territory. Frustrated Shuten enforcers have been taking out their anger on anyone that so much as looks at them funny. Bars in both districts are regularly getting smashed up. Knife fights are breaking out in the streets. Cars known to belong to members of both clans turn up with slashed tires. There’s even rumors of hits being taken out on higher ranking members.

Watch your step if you’re out and about in either territory. Faction affiliation doesn’t matter when tensions are running high. What’s more, rumors are flying all over about which of the two warring clans is going to be the one to escalate the violence further.

Will tensions boil over at any moment? At what point does the Department of the Enma have to step in? Why haven’t they already?

It’s all getting too much to handle…

6. CURSED OBJECTS (ALL FACTIONS)

The presence of the Haniwa is having increasingly frightening effects. There are whispers about blood coming out of the walls and the floors in apartments, about black ooze pouring from faucets and coming up from storm drains. There are even whispers of terrible household hauntings.

These aren’t just rumors though. Bars are having to close early due to the presence of wailing ghosts inhabiting the toilet or blood pouring from the taps. People run screaming out of alleyways pursued by ghostly hands.

These curses and hauntings seem to be fairly localized; kept to one building or one block at a time. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason as to when these accursed sightings will take effect.

Be careful out there! Who knows what could happen with so much terrible energy running rampant.

[ unfortunately there are no pyro barrels for bakugou to use, not that eula even knows what he's talking about. she just helped him get up here so that he could show her what he's capable of, hello??

like running up the steps towards the window. jeez, isn't he excitable. not the first guy eula will encounter on this certain mission. she also makes her way up there to give the barricaded window a few knocks -- feels hollow enough to barge in thanks to the poor quality of the wood. ]

Needs a bit of a push. [ she nods. ] Will you do the honors?

Got one better than a push.

[ His ability to ignite his own sweat is the issue, but not the explosive properties. Thus Katsuki does what is probably an odd thing for Eula to witness. He presses palms against weak points in the wood. ]

Might wanna stand back.

[ since he picked up matches some time ago to compensate. His body is meant to withstand the force of his own explosions, but who knows if this lady can. So all it takes is the light of a match and -

BOOM ]

[ she's raided hilichurl camps before and had come across pyro barrels than can blow those poor guys into smithereens, so eula can definitely handle a blast or two. but not when it's unwarranted? she's quick to jump back when the door implodes, and yet: ]

Hey! What were you thinking?! If there's a haniwa right behind that door--

[ but there's no time to complain. eula's sharp ears catch sounds of commotion inside the premises now that a bomb has been set off, and shadowy figures start weaving in and out of the hall they now found themselves in.

"shit, is that the department?!"
"are they seriously going to blow this place up?!"
"hurry, don't forget the haniwa! let's get outta here!" ]

The haniwa...?! [ she'll have to give this guy an earful later on. for now, time to jump into this untimely fray. ]

[ Maybe there could have been. But that would have been Bakugou's problem and he would have handled it accordingly. But the thing about it is that the blonde is pretty comfortable moving around in his own "mess." She can complain all she wants, but Bakugou is just going to jump right in and go after them. ]

Gonna cut them off!

[ Before launching himself inside and and probably looking to knee the first person he comes across to the face. ]

[ well, that takes care of that. the gang members who have to stay around to hold the fort will find out that they're no match for the reconnaissance captain -- thanks to eula's fancy footwork, she manages to dance her way around the crowd before striking them down with her blade; they're thankful that she isn't strong enough to wield claymores as of this writing, else they really would have gotten more hurt than they already are. ]

Check the rooms! Don't you ever forget what we're here for!

[ the other rooms in this floor look empty, so now they gotta fight their way downstairs. and it looks like there's no shortage of backup from the enemy gang anytime soon... ]

[ At this point, Bakugou primarily has his physical strength and agility to work with. His quirk? Pretty much no good since he can't ignite on command, not reliably. ]

Yeah, yeah!

[ Before, he would have just went on attacking. Thinking that the best way to achieve this would be to knock everyone out and then they can collect what they need. Not the case anymore.

He aims a right hook right at one of the gangster's jaws. Then darts off to check the rooms and to collect what statues he can.

They win only if they get the statues. The gangsters are secondary. ]

[ all right, if he leads the charge then she can trail right behind him, doublechecking the rooms in case they'd missed something. she manages to find a haniwa in one of the bathrooms in the second floor, but this means her hands will be occupied...

more gangsters incoming, hoping to smack the haniwa off her hands and shatter it on the ground. but eula can be rather ballsy if she wants to be, and instead of putting it down and compromising herself, she checks if the ceiling is high enough before throwing the haniwa upwards, her hands now free to wield a sword in order to take these goons down in one go before catching the clay figure neatly once she's done.

whew, that worked. probably not gonna do that again, though. now to check on the kid since the second floor seems to be clear-ish...? ]

[ Bakugou, on the other hand, is quick thinking. In one of the bedrooms, he rips off the blankets and snatches a sheet. ]

Toss it in here.

[ She's needed for combat. Bakugou, as much as he hates to admit it, would slow her down from handling the threats. So they need her hands freed. He's already tossing the two that he's found in there too. So he can heft things and find the haniwa as she clears a path for the both of them. ]

C'mon, Twinkletoes. We've still got more to hunt down, right? Can't stop now.

[ In other words, he doesn't need checked up on. Bakugou can manage himself just fine. ]

[ she shoots him a Look as she places the haniwa into the makeshift carrier. what did he call her again? twinkletoes? is he belittling her abilities or something? why, if they weren't only in the middle of something dire right now, she would've given him a piece of her mind!!

so she shakes her head and leads the way to the stairwell leading to the first floor, then stops bakugou in his steps. hold on, let her scout the layout downstairs with just a cursory look. ]

There's more of them downstairs, but they should be the last group holding down the fort. One of them, presumably their leader, stands in the center with a haniwa in his hands, and judging from how he's holding it, he has every intent of shattering it if we get too close.

[ and that's the last thing they want. she's had enough of haniwa-induced hallucinations as it is... ]

[ It's definitely not the worst nickname that Bakugou could come up with. But too bad he's not going to actually use her name. Like... Ever. Names aren't things that he does except in rare situations.

He stays put for now, letting her go ahead and scout on. Bakugou's instead counting up the haniwa that they've collected. ]

So then we need a distraction. Or...

[ Bakugou clicks his tongue. There's at least ONE thing he can do reliably. ]

Just how fast are you on on your feet?

[ well, so long as she's never referred to by her last name, she'd be fine with it......... not. how dare he, honestly. he's definitely going into her shitlist after this. ]

Pretty fast, I would say. I could also jump and snatch it off his hands if there's enough distraction.

[ she watches the group once more. ]

What do you have in mind?

[ That's fine. He can live with being on someone's shit list. Bakugou probably exists on several. Just another day in the life.

Right now, however, he lifts his hand. There's a few sparks. Nothing explosive. ]

Gonna blind 'em with something like a flashbang.

[ That would be enough of a distraction. And they wouldn't see it coming from Bakugou's hands. ]

[ she watches his hands flicker with pyro-like energy, and she's instantly reminded of the resident Spark Knight. let's just hope klee won't grow up into this guy or something.............. ]

It's worth a try. Just give me the signal and I'll snatch it right under his nose.

[ and fast, because the last group is getting restless. at this rate they'll have to go looking for these two themselves and ruin more haniwa while they're at it. ]

[ Klee wishes that she could grow up to make such big explosions... But really, Katsuki gives a nod. ]

No signal needed. Imma going - now!

[ Which means Katsuki is rushing in, hands sparking. It's enough to turn heads in his direction. But no one is expecting for the bright light to burst from the blonde's palms and light up the entire damn room.

Eula has her opening! ]

[ don't give klee or hoyo any ideas!! eula had to cover her eyes when bakugou's hand start glimmering before adjusting to the bright light that covered the entire room.

the crowd of goons cover their eyes as they scramble to get ready for combat, but eula is much faster. she leaps off the landing and quickly dashes to the leader, who is still blinded from the flash of light, and wastes no time in yanking the haniwa from their hands before spin-kicking the guy away. by the time the light settles, the last haniwa is acquired and the mission has been accomplished.

kind of. they still have to fight their way out of here, after all, and that's what they're gonna do. ]

[ Mission accomplished. Haniwa collected and all in that makeshift bag that Bakugou's thrown together. He still has a hold of it and snorts as the thugs start to regain their senses. ]

Now is it a good time to cut loose?

[ Or is she going to be against storming their way out? ]

[ she turns to look at him, then the thugs gathering their bearings. it should be easy enough to take them down in this state, so-- ]

You make a compelling argument. [ she brandishes her sword. ] Let's make this quick.

[ this last group won't even know what'll hit them once starts elegantly bulldozing her way through them. ]

[ That's right they won't. Katsuki ties the sheet holding all of the haniwa to himself so they won't jar free.

And since they're stumbling around, Bakugou can get a hand on them as he goes to shove past them. Sure, it's not his usual effectiveness when it comes to blowing things up. But it still can't feel great to have something snapping and popping like fireworks against skin, right?

Because that's what he's doing to make a path. ]

[ hey, isn't that a little too overkill?! well, if it works...

eula manages to fend off the last couple of thugs who are still too stubborn to let this go and follows bakugou out the door, ignoring the volley of jeers and insults that are getting thrown at them as they make their getaway.

hold on, let her catch her breath for a hot second before turning her attention to the younger boy. ]

Well, that could've been worse. Why didn't you tell me you have a functioning Pyro vision?

[ uh ]

[ His hands are on his knees as he catches his breath. The haniwa are still secured and the thugs are beat.

They're fine. But this girl? What the hell is she talking about? ]

Hah? Pyro what?

[ Vision? He doesn't have fiery vision? ]
